Links | Contact May, 2007 Recently I read an article in my local newspaper about a PBS show, which tells of a soldier’s encounter with a father and son in Iraq. The stranger this soldier met was a man whose car was crushed by a collision with the armored vehicle in which the soldier was traveling. That night the soldier could hear nothing but the screams of this father. He wanted to find out what he was screaming about. A translator helped him to discover that the man was screaming at the soldiers to kill him too, as the body crushed in the car was that of his son, who was an honors engineering student. The son was one of those who are Iraq’s future. This soldier had previously lost a daughter and knew it was one of the most painful and devastating experiences in his life to date. So he understood the devastation and desperation of the Iraqi man. In that instant, U. S. Army Staff Sgt. Jack Lewis says, “ I knew how that one Iraqi man felt.” And Lewis suddenly realized, “He is no different from me.” My late husband, was an infantry soldier in Viet Nam. He had an experience very similar to this. In Viet Nam, he was a tunnel rat. That meant he was the first one to go into a tunnel to make sure they were cleared of the enemy before anyone else entered for intelligence reasons. In his situation, he entered a Viet Cong tunnel, where it was evident that they had just fled. There were marijuana joints still smoking on a makeshift table. This is what the U. S. troops were doing in their time off, smoking marijuana. In that instant, he realized that the enemy was just like himself, and from that moment on could no longer invest his energy in the war. Rather, it became a quest to remain alive for the rest of his stay. I find it magical that all situations in life have the potential to create an opening into higher levels of consciousness. Even in the midst of war, many are learning of peace and oneness. I recently had a visit with my husband in spirit form. It was made clear to me that the amount of soul growth he experienced in this last lifetime was tremendous. It is never our place to judge the circumstances, situations or choices that others create to play and experience the earth plane. It becomes important to view life from an expanded perspective as all levels of consciousness work in the ways that will support the movement to higher states of being, as well as potential soul growth. Blessings of great love and light to all, Dee
